I would like to take this opportunity to thank the membership for allowing
me to represent them for 2004.
The recruitment drive has been successful with an increase of 30 new
members. However we still need to work on encouraging non members to join
the team. Remember that cities with a 25,000 plus population can have a
group membership. The executive will be meeting in June at length to
revisit the strategic plan with updates and changes. We have been
successful in getting the role of PWABC out to our elected officials
through an info booth at the UBCM Conference.
Members should take the opportunity to nominate individuals and projects
for awards at our Technical Conference in Nelson. Past President Dale
Beaudry of Kelowna is the person in charge of these awards, Dale can be
contacted at dbeaudry@city.kelowna.bc.ca.
National Public Works week this year will be held May 16-22. The theme of
the week this year is “24/7 Focused on our Community” with information
available on the website (www.apwa.net). Take the opportunity to tell your
community what you do in Public Works.
I would like to welcome Ian Vaughan of Esquimalt back to the executive as
our Chapter Delegate. Trevor Kushner of Duncan as a Director and Bob Adams
of Nelson as a Director and Local Arrangements Chair for our September
Technical Conference in Nelson. Good luck Bob to you and your staff.
Yours truly,
Don
Alberg
President PWABC
