Hello everyone and welcome to another new year of the Road Runner. It is my pleasure to take over the reins from Jim Duckworth in becoming editor of the Road Runner. I'd like to take this opportunity to thank Jim for his good work and efforts as the past editor.

In setting your plans for 2004, I'd like to remind you of a few important
dates.  The Technical Conference this year is in the quaint town of Nelson
(that's where they filmed Roxanne with Steve Martin) from September 14 to 17 more information follows in this and the June edition of the Road Runner.  The Chapter has a number of individual awards up for nomination each year including Dedicated Service Awards for both PWABC and MSA members and PWABC Manager of the year.  Deadlines for submission of names for these awards is May 31, 2004.  In addition at the annual Conference the Ideas and Gadget Awards are presented, the deadline for submissions is August 31, 2004.

For details on how you can make a submission for the awards and details on the Technical Conference please visit our web site at
www.pwabc.cpwa.net.

In addition Public Works week is May 16 to 22.  Lets all take this
opportunity to promote the good work that all of us in the field of Public
Works provides.  It is important that the public recognize the services we
provide and the fact that in most emergencies or disasters it is those in
Public Works who are one of the first responders.

If you have any suggestions for improvements or changes to the Road Runner or wish to place an advertisement please contact myself at
jumpleby@binnie.com or phone (604) 420-1721.
