Presidents Message

March 2005

John Rosenberg

Change that is the word I think that strikes fear into most people.  Fear of the unknown is what makes people apprehensive about change.  If you are actually reading the President’s message, (I should mention it is an honour to be the PWABC President representing our members) you are one of the leaders in your organization that deals with and I am sure directs change constantly.

In today’s municipal environment, we are constantly changing the way we do business in order to meet the demands of our City Councils and the public.  More then ever before people feel they have the right to tell the professionals in Public Works how they should be doing their jobs.  Creating a team atmosphere and giving as much background information as possible are two of the ways to help people deal with change.  Even better if the affected people can be utilized to help create the change mechanisms it can actually help strengthen the work place.

This years PWABC executive is hoping to implement some changes to help improve the association.  By now, most of the members should have been contacted to answer a questionnaire on some of the ideas that we have.  I would encourage anyone who has not responded to calls or who has not been contacted call an executive member.  With the input from the membership we will be able to move forward in a direction that will not only improve the association but will also improve membership benefits.

We cannot do this without your help, contact an executive member today.

Thanks for reading and I hope to see every one of you in Salmon Arm this year at the conference.

Yours truly,

John Rosenberg

President, PWABC
