PWA News In Brief          March 2005

Highlights of the Executive Meetings held March 4,  2005.

Your Executive had a very productive meeting with some exciting initiatives being undertaken.

·       Plans are progressing well for the Annual Technical Conference in Salmon Arm this year.  A committee is also working on a location for the 2006 & 2007 Conferences.

·       The Local Arrangements Chairperson and MSA are working on improving opportunities to discuss products, services and new techniques at this years Conference.  The Executive is already acting on some of the suggestions and recommendations put forward in the recent member survey.

·       The membership survey involves contacting each member to find out how we can improve in meeting the needs of our members.  The survey is almost complete with only a few more members that we need to contacted.  The results will be reviewed and discussed at the June Executive meeting.

·       Advertising rates for the newsletter are being reviewed as is the size and content of the newsletter being assessed to meet some of the suggestions from the survey.

·       Your Executive has been working very hard on Education and Training options and this appears to be timely as early survey indications confirm that we are on the right tract.

·       PWABC will have a display booth at the LGMA/GFOA Convention in Whistler May 31 to June 2 and at the UBCM Municipal Market Place, September 28 & 29.

·       Your current Executive has received the support from Premier Campbell on our efforts to implement the “Technology Road Map” for Civil Infrastructure Systems in BC.  We will be meeting with the Chief Engineer of the Ministry of Transportation for future discussion on this initiative.

·       On behalf of all our members the Executive acknowledged and thanked MSA for their “Educational Donation” of $11,000 in cash, kind and material for 2004.

Our June 3 Executive meeting will be hosted by the Heavy Construction Show at Tradex in Abbotsford.  Please come and see the show and meet with your executive members.  See: http://www.masterpromotions.ca/heavy-construction.asp for details.

MSA Presidents Message

“NEW DIRECTIONS FOR MSA”

Your MSA executive is pleased to announce the “New Directions” the MSA has agreed upon to help enhance the Annual Conference, and bring our technologies to more of the PWA and Public Works people by increasing the number of displays to every year during the PWA annual conference.  The MSA will ensure manufacturers, consultants, and distributors, display there products and companies in the most practical form to suit the venue that the PWA conference is being held in.

This year come with us to Salmon Arm where we are planning an exciting conference that will balance a good technical program, with MSA displays, plus a great social program.  The venue in Salmon Arm lends it self to a “Table Top Only” Display so we can fit in a decent representation of our industry.  MSA members will be having a 3 hour dedicated display time at the Prestige Inn, on the Wednesday to update you with our latest technology.  The PWA Executive has listened to its members, and worked hard to make positive changes to the conference time table to make it a more technically sound conference.  The Display space in Salmon Arm will be limited so look for our registration package to book a spot.  You must be an MSA member to display.

The PWA has also supported an increase in the degree of advertising to help us “Let You Know” who we are and what we can offer.  Please CHECK NOW to see your MSA membership is up to date.  Our MSA membership renewal packages will be forwarded in May.

For membership info or how to enjoy being involved more in the PWA and MSA, contact myself Peter B. Turgoose at gooseworks@pinc.com, or Ed Fujii at efujii@aplinmartin.com.  Or any of our other executive members.

Please also note that the MSA gets a break advertising in the Road Runner, so if you want to reach the key decision makers in Public Works, advertise in this newsletter.

The Salmon Arm golf course will host the annual golf tourney this year, please mark your calendars for a great week in September 12th to 16th.

Enjoy Every DAY.  Cheers, Peter B. Turgoose, MSA President.
