Hydrant Lifting Device

Engineering Operations hydrant servicing program has been given a ‘lift’ this year. Some of Delta’s watermains and hydrants are very deep, creating a need to service fire hydrants safely. The hydrant lifting device alleviates the strain put on the workers back while lifting the shafts out.

The lifting device is made up of lightweight aluminum that breaks down into two pieces and uses a winch to lift the shaft out. The device adapts to any compression hydrant and simply bolts to the upper flange of the hydrant body.

The hydrant lifting device by no means increases production but provides a safe and effective means of servicing fire hydrants with long shafts.

This tool was created from the result of an ergonomic study and input from our Occupational Health and Safety division.

Steve Svensson, Ron Achter, Mark Lyon, Mike Cruikshank, and Tom Papuc collectively put their heads together to come up with this new method to service fire hydrants.

The approximate cost of this device was $500.00
